2007 West Virginia Tax Maps FOIA Lawsuit - 10 Years Later

In 2007 Seneca Technologies filed suit in Kahawha County West Virginia under the Freedom of Information Act.  We originally won the suit and obtained the data.  The decision was overturned on appeal, therefore the maps are no longer available from the state tax department unless purchased for $8 per map sheet, whether in paper or electronic form.

The maps we obtained under the suit are available for land professionals in our Seneca Courthouse service, however many of them are over 15 years old, and we no longer host them for public use.

Many West Virginia counties have since decided to host their updated parcel maps online.  Most of these sites charge for copies per changes in WV law prompted by this suit.
